Position Title Senior Technologist, Global Fuels Technology
Position Description BP now have a vacancy for a Senior Technologist to join their Global Fuels Technology (GFT) team. Reporting to the Regional Technology Manager, the primary purpose of this role is to ensure that BP's product offer meets legislative requirements, is fit-for-purpose and fully meets our customer's expectations. The role involves communicating with customers and government authorities regarding product quality and specification matters as well as providing product support, quality and technical advice to a range of stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical service to Retail, Logistics, Sales, Asset Management, Marketing, Terminals, and Refinery teams within the supply chain to ensure product quality is appropriate for customer needs 
  • Oversee the customer complaints process and manage and resolve product quality incidents with customers, escalating to superiors if broader business support is necessary 
  • Be a subject matter expert for product specifications and their application within BP assets and joint venture arrangements 
  • Identifying local customer technical needs and translating them back to the GFT Product Development team to aid in next generation product planning 
  • Develop, review and maintain records relating to the substantiation of marketing claims and product information 
  • Develop and deliver training on product quality and product management 
  • Participate in the on-call roster (approximately one week in four) after six months in the role 

Skills & Experience:
The successful applicant will require advanced knowledge in at least one of the three areas, below:
  • Bulk fuel distribution systems such as pipelines, shipping, terminals, logistics and retail station equipment and the impact that product quality has on these assets 
  • Engine / vehicle technology related to fuels such as performance issues, emissions and impact that product quality has on vehicles 
  • Gasoline and diesel regulations as well as recognised national or regional industry specifications and their application 

In addition to the above, applicants must; be a capable problem solver with a genuine passion for ensuring the quality of our products; have the ability to communicate and build relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to work through difficult issues; be a fast learner, able to apply your knowledge to support and add value to the business.

Candidates with laboratory experience, those who understand engine technology and fuels and/or lubricant chemistry will be viewed favourably; however these are not essential to be considered for this role.
At all times your primary responsibility is to ensure that all tasks undertaken are done so in accordance with BP and regulatory Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and legislation.
